Monthly in arrears vs. daily settlement on Synota

The announcement

Gridmatic, an AI-driven power company, today announced a new offering that pays energy brokers weekly commissions for data center customers that use daily billing. Gridmatic offers this solution in conjunction with Synota, a financial technology platform enabling daily settlement for energy and compute contracts. It addresses a persistent challenge in energy procurement: the gap between closing a deal and collecting the commission earned from it.

Most brokers are paid monthly in arrears, often about 60 days after the power their commission is based on began delivery. That lag can leave brokerages covering their own operating costs while they wait to be paid on existing accounts. Getting paid sooner usually means accepting an upfront commission at a discount.

“When brokers bring us customers that pay daily, they shouldn’t have to wait two months or audit a statement to get paid. We’re changing that with weekly commissions and transparent reporting that give our partners greater visibility and control.”

Jackson Vo, President, Gridmatic Retail

Brokers get a consolidated view of every account they have placed with Gridmatic, including usage, payment status and commissions earned to date. Brokers see the same figures Gridmatic sees, which makes it easier to track earnings and reduces the need to reconcile separate statements or request payment updates.

For Synota, the offering extends daily settlement beyond the supplier and customer to everyone who helps bring a contract together.

“Daily settlement was built to take the waiting out of energy payments, and brokers have been waiting longer than anyone. With Gridmatic, the same settlement that pays for the power now pays the broker who placed it, on a schedule that matches when the value is created. It’s a model we expect to see across the market.”

Austin Mitchell, CEO, Synota

Vega Energy Advisors is the first broker to benefit from this offering.

“I'm not waiting two months to get paid anymore. I know what's going to hit my account and when, and that cash flow is what I'm using to grow the business.”

Scooter Womack, Founder and Managing Partner, Vega Energy Advisors

Any customer that pays daily. Any broker who placed it.

On Synota, weekly commissions are not limited to data centers. When a customer pays daily or weekly, the broker’s commission settles with it and lands every week, on usage the customer has already paid for.

Brokers log in to the Synota portal and see every account they placed: usage, payment status, and commission earned to date. The figures match what the supplier sees, so there is no statement to reconcile and no one to chase.

About the companies

About Gridmatic

Gridmatic is the power company for an increasingly complex grid. As renewables and batteries become the dominant sources of new power generation, and as electricity demand grows from electrification and data centers, forecasting and optimization are becoming as important as physical infrastructure. Gridmatic predicts weather, electricity supply, demand, and prices, then applies those forecasts to optimize how energy is procured, stored, supplied, and used. Our technology combines advanced weather modeling, machine learning, and optimization to improve energy market decisions and asset performance. Today, Gridmatic is the most profitable trader in the ERCOT day-ahead market since entering in 2019, operates the highest-performing battery in CAISO during 2024–2025, and has signed more than 1,600 commercial and industrial retail customers in the last two years.
